The IPv6 prefix for BITS-Pilani has got allocated. It is 2001:0E30:/1205::/48

BITS Pilani has been asked to lead the IPV6 Quality of Service related activities of the European Union. A related project funded by the EC shall be carried out by BITS under the banner of Project IPV6@BITS. Three European companies from France,Germany and Netherlands have expressed desire to collaborate with Vov6 and Lifeguard projects proposed by BITS in terms of technical and financial support.

BITS Pilani presents its proposals on Video over v6 and Lifeguard in NGNI conference held at Brussels on invitation.

BITS Pilani provides two international tunnels to two of the largest Wide Area Networks in Netherlands and USA.

BITS Pilani becomes the first in India to get connected to the Internet2 of US through 6TAP BITS,Pilani becomes the first in India to get connected to the Internet2 of US through 6TAP Gigabit PoP, an Internet2 MoU partner in the US. With this BITS, Pilani gets connected to seven international tunnels.

BITS Pilani gets connected to 8th international tunnel through Hurricane, a US based pTLA.

BITS, Pilani has become India's first pseudo Top Level Aggregator (pTLA) for IPv6-specific connectivity to the 6Bone. This has also made BITS the world's first non-ISP university / organization to achieve this status.

BITS Pilani becomes the first non-European institution to be a member of the Next Generation Networks Initiative (NGN-I). Project IPv6@BITS adds yet another first to the list.

BITS Pilani actively participated in the Global IPv6 Summit, Bangalore - India. The IPv6@BITS team presented a paper, tutorial and demonstrated IPv6 capable products. The Team included Dr.Rahul Banerjee, alongwith CH Balaji, Deepak Kameshwaran, Hareesh V H and S Radhakrishnan.

IPv6-BITS-IN becomes the FIRST internetwork in INDIA to get connected to the 6Bone.
